Walking Through the Woods At Night

Walking through some thick woods in the absolute dark before dawn while heading to my deer stand. I prefer to not use a light unless absolutely necessary as to not spook the deer that I am trying to kill.

I am slowly and quietly making my way through the woods when all of a sudden something BIG starts running at me crashing through the woods and making the meanest and deepest growling type sound I have ever heard in my life.

It stopped about 10 feet from me and then backed off a little. My heart jumps into my throat and I go into fight mode.

The woods are so thick I can’t run. I’m trying to think what animal this could possibly be but nothing is coming to mind. (I live in South Georgia, US so rattlesnakes are the only animal I’m normally weary of while in the woods) I pull out my knife to defend myself because my bow and arrow wouldn’t be too good in a close quarters fight in the woods.

I turn my small flashlight on but couldn’t see anything due to the thickness of the woods. I start to slowly back out of the woods and when I finally get out I run to my truck with my heart still about to beat out of my chest.

When the sun gets up good later that day I go back (with a gun this time) to check my trail camera to see what it was that almost gave me a heart attack. When I looked at the pictures I almost couldn’t believe what I saw on my computer screen. It was…..a donkey.

A fucking donkey was almost the absolute death of me.
