Door Opening By Itself

The time I saw the front door to my house open on its own.

I was doing some cleaning that day, and had gone outside to throw out a bag of trash. Came back in, and locked the top and bottom locks.

Well, about half an hour later I'm sweeping this hallway that's about 5 feet from the door, and I hear and see the top lock turn. I stop sweeping and stare at the door thinking my sister had come home.

I start seeing the doorknob turn, and turn completely. The doorknob isn't let go, and I see the door open slightly. It closes and opens again, and closes and opens a third time.

By the third time I decided to check to see who was at the door.

There is nobody.

I was only two strides from the door, so if anybody would have left I would have been able to see them walk down my driveway.

My other sister asked me who was at the door, and I told her nobody.

So I locked the door, and turn to look at my sister who is shitting some serious bricks. She tells me that she lost the keys to the front door months ago, and she never bothered to make a spare.

Sent a chill right down my spine.

About a week after that I had fallen asleep on the couch, and I was the only one home. I made sure all doors and windows were locked, and fell asleep.

About 2 hours later my friend calls me wanting to chat at around 12 in the morning, and while I was in the middle of telling him that I was sleeping I notice my fucking front door is wide open. I freaked the fuck out. No one in my immediate family was in town, and I was the only one at home.

At that point I grab a heavy chair and place it in front of the front door. That heavy chair kept that door from opening again for the next few months.

There were also some other instances, but this comment is already getting too long. I'll post more if anyone is interested.

Edit: Since you all liked my story, here's a few more. A few days after finding the door wide open my friend invites me to go see a ska show. After the ska show is over she drops me off at home, which at this point I'm dreading going home (I neglected to tell her about the door thing).

Well, I was lying on the couch texting for a few minutes when I decide to fall asleep. I turn my body on my left side so that my back is exposed and my face is facing the couch.

Seconds after turning I hear someone come down the stairs ever so slowly. I turned to look at the stairs, and there's nobody there. Whoever or whatever was walking down the stairs stopped as I turned to look. I turn back to face the couch, and at this point I didn't know what to do.

The walking continued, and I just started saying to myself that this can't be real and it's all in my head for drinking that one beer. Anyway, before that thing got to the last few steps, I had fallen asleep instantly. I can't even explain how I went some shitting myself to sleeping that quick. It's still a mystery to me.

After that day, my sister and her kids could hear as if someone was walking in our attic on a daily basis. My first thought was raccoons, but it sounded too heavy to be raccoons.

I also thought that we might have a squatter, because there's this homeless shelter about a block from our house. I checked the attic and didn't find any indications of a squatter or raccoons living in our house.

We sort of ignored it the stomping around for a while until my sister had a small get together. My cousin came over that day, too, and they were all in front of the house talking and drinking a bit. My cousin is sitting in a position where she gets full view of the front door.

Well, one of my nieces opens the door and my cousin swears she saw an old man look at her and walk away. She was all creeped out, and asked who the old guy was. My sister asked what the hell she was talking about, but cousin kept going on and on about the old man looking at her. It's not like my sister could explain a death in our house, because my parents built the house.

I forgot what happens after that, but I'll ask my sister about what she remembers. There was definitely tons of creepy stuff going on in my house around that time.

Edit 2: Alright, enough about the damn locks. This was a few years ago, and we did eventually change the locks. Twice.
