Under complicated and convoluted circumstances.. my family and I had the opportunity to live on an estate owned by a friend that he had bought as an investment property.

Think ‘80’s style MTV cribs.. but poorly maintained with big sections that were started but left unfinished.

There was a giant garage that was made to store/show cars. Huge, industrial.. probably held 20 cars in it’s day. A heli pad, a tennis court with stadium type lighting, a main house and a really big decked out pool house.

The owners brother lived in the pool house with his kids long before we got there and we lived in the main house. It took two weeks to clean it and finish up some of the strange renovations to be livable. I thought it was weird that the brother selected the smaller home and asked him about it.. he said he would never live up there but wouldn’t say why.. and at first I never gave it a thought. The owner checked in frequently to make sure we were doing ok.. and again.. I read nothing into it, thought he was just being friendly.

The downstairs had 3 big bedrooms and a living room, upstairs had a master suite with a large sitting room. I let my kids pick their rooms and we moved in! My youngest son.. maybe 5-6 at the time, couldn’t sleep in his room. I thought maybe it was too far away from us, so we let him sleep in the sitting room attached to our suite while he adjusted. Then, he couldn’t even go in his room, so all his toys and clothing were moved upstairs too.

Then my older son.. 15-16 couldn’t sleep in his room. He insisted that people were watching him sleep. He could be downstairs during the daytime, but at night he couldn’t tolerate it. Then my daughter couldn’t stay in her room either. I thought that it was because the boys wouldn’t stay down there and it somehow was contagious. So within a month or two.. they were camping out in the living room.. I thought they would adjust.. the house had floor to ceiling windows and we were in the middle of the woods surrounded by 100 vacant acres, it was isolated and creepy. The pool house was not really visible from the main house except at night in the winter you couldn’t see the glow from the lights.

Then the door knocking started. The house had a giant floor to ceiling double door with floor to ceiling glass panes on either side. The driveway was almost 1/2 mile long and had motion lights. At 2-3 am, there would be a knocking at the door.. loud, like it was the cops and there was an emergency. Bam bam bam bam. No lights triggered, no one visible, no one there.

Then there was electrical issues. Turn all the lights off and leave the room.. come back and some of them are on but the switches are all still in the down position.

Then there was the kitchen problem. Clean up after dinner.. all the cabinets are closed. Wake up in the morning.. cabinets open. Drawers open. That progressed to things being on the floor.. silver ware, flour, salt and once eggs..

It was all annoying but it seemed harmless for a while.. then I was constantly woken up with the feeling that someone was watching me too.

We called in a paranormal group and they did there thing.. night cameras and recording equipment. They did a few experiments.. trying to talk to the spirits..asking them to do things like roll a ping pong ball or blow out a candle but they did not and I thought we were all just a little crazy.

Until.. they came back a week later to show us the film and have us listen to the recordings.

The light orbs were stunning. Balls of energy that danced and zipped.. one sat on my younger sons shoulder.. one followed me from room to room.. super strange. The video recording picked up footsteps in a vacant part of the house.. but were quite unique. They sounded like some one walking with a peg leg!! By the front door there was a voice.. some people who heard it.. said they picked up “out, out, out” but I did not. Downstairs, there was weeping.

We moved the next week, no one had lived there since.. I went back to the area maybe 18 months ago.. just to see how the house had deteriorated being vacant for over 10 years now.. and I just couldn’t turn down the driveway..somehow, something kept me away.
The owner, who had never lived there, said he thought the previous tenants he tried to set up there were just crazy.
