Naked in Appalachia
Might be too late for this to be seen.
My wife and I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2022. At this point, we are around 1100 miles in and are somewhere in Pennsylvania. It’s July, and it’s raining. A typical day.
We’re hiking along, and her pace gets her to about 30 yards ahead of me. Just enough to see her still, but far enough that I lose sight of her around any kind of bend.
I lose sight of her for a bit, and I can hear talking up ahead. Obviously just chatting with another hiker, it seemed. Well I found a bend and get her back into view, and its some naked dude wearing absolutely nothing but a Covid mask talking at her (she did not stop hiking). Apparently the guy was a bit of a nutter because he was being “apologetic” to my wife about having run out of the woods, completely naked, shocking her etc. and then saying that if she wants, she should kick him in the balls. Psycho shit. It’s at this point that I see them both, and my wife just keeps hiking up ahead past him. Well the naked dude, who does not yet see me, then starts looking at my wife and begins shaking his pelvis and touching himself.
And then he starts running after my wife.
Oh fuck naw, so I grab a rock and get out in a full dead sprint chasing after him. He must have then heard me because he just bolted off into the woods. I literally never saw a glimpse of him after that. He just like, vanished like some little goblin. I catch up to my wife and I’m like “What the fuck was that?!” and she really didn’t have any idea what happened. She thought it was just another hippy hiker having the time of his life running around the woods naked. I’m like “no, the dude starting fucking chasing after you.” And her face just went completely white and blank. She had no idea, and had she been alone it could have been a completely fucked situation. So we finally get to the road crossing and start texting all our solo female friends behind us to stay on high alert through that section.
The craziest part was that we were a few miles in either direction from any type of road crossing, and I definitely didn’t see any backpacking gear nearby. So we were really confused on just how the fuck he got up on the trail. He didn’t even have shoes on either. So that was just about the end of us hiking any more than 50 feet apart from each other the rest of the way to Maine.
