Bricklejacks
I call them Bricklejacks.
I don't know where they are from. I'm not sure what they want, but I've never encountered one myself, nor heard many accounts. The only thing in common is they almost always are seen acting like humans and trying to blend in with society.
Sometimes a person is walking down the street in broad daylight, out of the corner if their eye think they see a hideous face only to look up and see an odd, but otherwise seemingly normal person, staring at them, smiling, a cold disconnected creepy way. It's a glamour or illusion, but something always seems off.
In the dark though, they appear as they truly are. Though in their fancy clothes or nice cars, their creepy eyes, sinister sharp tooth grins, and steady gaze are always the same. Though usually encountered in seeming normal encounters, in your case at a stop light as they are good citizens keeping traffic laws, their visage isn't the only thing wrong with them.
There is a deep instinct and knowing they aren't natural and don't belong. Unlike other beings, animals rarely sense them unless they reveal their true visage. And though scary in appearance they do not act as other demon like apparitions. They just go about life, socially awkward, silent, rarely talking, doing their jobs, living in their homes, taking late night strolls or drives.
Of course no one has reported these beings attacking them, but then they don't like to draw attention to themselves. It is likely they are very cautious if they murder or feed on other people.
They tend to live in nice places, having nicer jobs. A place no one would question a missing homeless person or runaway teen. They work by day, in a magical glamour, but let their hair down at night while they roll or walk around looking for easy prey.
And though maybe a coincidence, the majority of their dwellings are in the bible belt. The east coast, deep south. From Florida all the way up to North Carolina.
