First Exorcism
I wasn't eavesdropping, but at 13, my father got into the car with scratches up and down his arm and he said:
"Welp, I just witnessed my first exorcism. Let's go home"
He was plainly shaken up, and serious.
To be true to the OP I just relayed the most messes up thing I've heard. But to answer the questions: It was an exorcism.
My dad has a Masters of Divinity. He works as a protestant pastor, not a Catholic one. One Sunday, while he was preaching, a woman came into the church hunched over dressed in all black. She walked right down the asile gliding as she strode. She was almost to the front when he dissmissed the congregation, just flat out said "Congregation, please leave us."
My mother sisters and I left with the rest of the people. I looked back over my shoulder and saw my dad with the lady heads bowed. As we left the building, my mom took my sisters in one car (we had two at the time), and she said to me, "Stay with your dad, he'll need you." I got in the 2nd car and watched as the parking lot emptied.
About 20 minutes later, dad came out disheveled and distraught. He got in the car, sat down for what seemed like forever and relayed what I originally posted. I was stunned, didn't know what to say...I think I mustered "wow."
I got more of the story later when I worked up the courage to ask. But at the time, my dad, the stoic, honest, revered, hero of his son, who could do wrong in my eyes was reduced to a shell, by forces that few people understand. I saw my dad in a new light from that point on.
TL; DR: Superhero Dad became super natural by sharing a story about a ghost with his son.
