Curated Ghost stories

When I was working at a long term nursing facility here in Austin I worked at the nurses station as a clerk. It was an L shaped building and the desk was located where the two halls met. Down the right hall was an elderly woman who suffered from severe dementia and constantly spoke in a nonsensical mummbled manner. One day a man on the opposite hall passed away. (I'll say his name was John Smith for HIPPA reasons) I was walking down the right hall about 15 minutes after he passed and as I approached the woman's room I heard her talking and speak the words "yes, John.. It's been a pleasure for me too, I must say". Confused I walked into her room and asked her who she was talking too. She pointed to the empty chair in her room and said "oh, Mr. Smith here... He's just on his way out and telling me how excited he is to see his wife" - the woman never to my knowledge was alert and oriented enough to form a sentence for several months or more. Nor would she know the name of a patient down the hall - much less the fact he died. I got the chills and have believed ever since. She also died shortly after and I believe people who are closer to death become more sensitive to those on the other side. Crazy stuff!

I had a fairly memorable experience in the garvey building off of third. I had been there before and it was drab. This time we went in checked all the floors for people that could be in there. After checking and finding no one. We went to the top floor and started looking around. Well we all ended up in a secluded part of the room. We started hearing really loud bags and scratching. Of course being scared we asked if anybody was there and the noises became louder. Once again we asked if anybody was there. Noises stopped and I went to check to see if anybody that we didn't see during the look around was up there. The strength behind the pounding was unnatural. Aswell as how loud it was. I honestly don't think a person could have done it. Actually I'm sure a person couldn't cause it. It was the last time going in there and we left with hussle in our steps.

My old apartment at Astoria Park had some kind of spirit in it... Stuff would fall off the counters and out of the cabinets for no reason, and my keys hung by the door would randomly swing back and forth with no windows open or fan on... Stuff like that. We named it Oscar.

I used to live 2 blocks from Summit. Used to be a playground there, swings and merry go round would move on their own. No wind involved.

Okay, here's the first one. Around 1993, I rented a room for a few months from a friend of mine in a house on Tennessee in Amarillo, a couple of blocks off 6th Ave. It was only AFTER I moved in that he told me the house was haunted!

The back room used to be a kind of sunroom I guess, because it had windows all around it, in an L shape. The windows had to be physically latched shut. It was cold one day, so I shut all the windows and latched them, and went into my room to get something, came back out not 10 seconds later, and they were all open.

My friend had a Boxer named Ginger, and sometimes when it was just her and I at home, she would sort of stare at the wall and start to growl.

Also, a few times I would hear footsteps in the front living area, which had hardwood floors. I would go to see if someone had come in, only to find that no one was there. Freaky stuff.
