Peace Corp in South Africa

When I was serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa, I had a very small room with a bed, a cabinet/closet and a table/chair in a rectangle sized room. The room doubled as housing for an emergency water pump that leaked constantly and would bring in mold that was spot welded to the NE corner. I just kinda dealt with it but it gave the room an eerie feel at night hearing the drips and knowing something was growing and feeding feet next to me.

My bed faced the dresser and I preferred to sleep with the light on so that passerbys would think I was awake and hopefully deter some robbers. Well I was asleep and woke up to a vague awareness of the cabinet door creeping open just a crack. More sleep. I awake again to the door open a little wider this time and I can kind of make out a shadow behind it. More sleep. I awake again and the dull glow of my battery powered lamp illuminates the door cracked further still and I can see thick black hair and an eye wide open and staring unblinkingly through the crack at me. I can also make out a slim finger propping the door open. More sleep. I feel an overbearing presence of ill intent and then fear and wake again. This time the door is closed, but sleeping on my belly with my face flat one the bed and resting on my left cheek, I saw the horizon of the bed from my perspective and a shadow just barely visible feet from the closet and hugging the floor.

I'm frozen now, hopelessly urging my body to move, but I can't do more than tremble. I shutter in and out of sleep, each time my eyes open, the shadow has inched closer. This happens maybe three more times. I hear a sound like maybe sucking air in and out with a closed jaw and clenched teeth very quickly like "tsk-chw-tsk-chw-tsk-chw" and I'm aware the shadow is right next to me but hiding below the horizon of the bed so I can't see it. My eyes close one more time and open again and I can see the top of a furious black mane and two eyes opened wide staring at me.

I want to scream, want to move but can't. We hold this stare for what seemed like forever and then I blink and it's gone. But I feel it at my feet. I'm hopelessly urging my body to move and I can get my fingers to wiggle but as I'm in the process of waking my body, I feel a firm tug at my feet once, twice and a third time much harder now. I was yanked OFF the bed completely. And I wake on the floor.

Then blackness and I awake again, this time standing and facing the mold-covered corner. I see a woman chained to the wall naked. She turns her head slowly to me and says in Sepedi "Kitimang!" Which means "Run!" and "Ke na mo gonna wena" which means "I am here because of you." Bear in mind, I'm standing and just lightly holding my blanket and facing this fucking corner. I black out again and when I wake up, it's morning. I've woken on the floor, naked myself with my clothes folded neatly next to my bed: pants, shirt, underwear and socks folded into that ball, all these stacked delicately on top of each other.
