No Face Besides Sunken Eyes
One summer night when I was juvenile, two of my friends and I snuck out of the house to explore the rural, very heavily wooded area. We followed the road about 3 miles down to a small bridge over the river.
It had been a rainy summer, so the river had flooded into the surrounding area of woods below the bridge creating a swamp/forest. One of us kicked some gravel off of the bride into the river below and no sooner than it had hit the water we heard a loud snap from the wooded area behind us.
I grew up in the area so I considered we had just startled a deer and I continued to watch the river flowing below. My friend shined his flash light off into the woods towards the direction of the snap and instantly grabbed my arm tightly and began trying to say my name. Just as I looked in that direction I saw what in no way related to a Deer, but was very humanoid in figure. I'd say this bridge had to have been at least 12-15ft above the river, and this humanoid looking thing stood almost even to the bridge in height. Instant horror shot through my body. A genuine icy vain, legs froze horror.
This thing had no face besides sunken in eyes and then it shrieked. I finally had broken free from my horror paralysis and my other friends had already began running.
I ran hard. I had ran cross country for 8 years and my friend who never did any physical activities was able to outrun me. I heard what sounded like metal scraping metal as whatever this thing was scrambled over the guard rail to the bridge, and another shriek was enough to really kick in adrenaline. We sprinted the entire way home.
When we arrived back, my parents were very startled at how scared we were, and they weren't even mad we snuck out. We told them what we had saw and my dad just said he believed me and for us to go to sleep.
The next morning my friends went home very traumatized and my dad drove me down the bridge where we saw claw like marks in the metal guard rail which was now bowed like something had pulled it. We decided it was best to go home.
The few people I've told the story to called me a liar, despite my friends being able to recount the story exactly as I had. I went back to the bridge 4 years after around the same time at night (This time loaded with a firearm) and it was peaceful and nothing ever happened.
I don't know what I encountered that night. I tried researching the general description and listening to various nocturnal animal calls/roars and nothing related. I've been told by some it is a wendigo or the rake, but im not sure I believe that stuff.
Whatever it was/wherever it may be now, it is extremely dangerous and I am fortunate to be alive.
